Perhaps you'd like an alternative to videos and worksheets...have you thought of using maps and stories to get students beyond the text?
I created a lesson plan for mapping students through The Watsons Go to Birmingham. It contains experiences in math, science, social studies and English language arts. Thanks Barbaree for your wonderful resources for geography, history, and beyond. It is my hope that the spatial perspective will be increasingly valued in the future. Along these lines creating historical to current neighborhood and county ethnicity and other demographic maps from, say 1940 to present using www.socialexplorer.com is another excellent way to incorporate the spatial perspective.
